Sprout & Shimmer, Exercise 1

Please read through the exercise first, then if you’d rather listen and be guided through it, use this recording. You’ll need a piece of paper and a pen, and about 10 minutes.

A shimmering seed: calling in the energy of your magical business

Your business is a collaboration between you and the universe. 

Where your own individual spark of personality and purpose meets the universe’s expression and expansion. 

There is nobody like you in the world. Nobody who has your unique combination of worldview, skills, communication style and personality. 

And because of that, there is not a single business in the world that can be like yours either. 

You have an idea of what it is that you want to do. You know what your skills are, even if you’re shy or self-conscious about them. 

But what about your message? What is it that you have to teach the world? What’s your purpose? And why were you born here, now, in this place and time? 

Here’s a simple exercise to help you get an idea of the theme running through your life, and your professional purpose. 

Part 1

Think back to one of the darkest nadirs of your life. 

Without re-traumatizing yourself, think yourself there as deeply as you can. 

Now, remember, what was the thing that you needed to learn in that nadir? 

What changed the course of your life there, turned it around, and propelled you forwards? 

What message helped? 

Write it down. 

Think of another one. Another time. Another dark period. 

It was hard. How did you feel then? 

And what changed this for you? What helped? What did you need to learn?

Write it down. 

If you can think of another one after that, think of that one, and repeat the process. What did you need to learn? What revelation happened that helped you out of it. Did you feel changed by it? Have you ever looked back or gone back there since? What was the thing that helped? 

Write it down. 

Now, are there similarities? Or a common theme? Some kind of thread running through them all, or maybe they come together in a bigger picture. 

Take a little step back to hold them all together, and see if a little spark of understanding starts to emerge. It doesn’t need to be understanding in words, it can just be a sense of commonality, or that there’s a purpose there. 

Allow this spark to grow and strengthen. 

Drop the nadirs, and the stories, and hold on to the spark.

This is what you have to teach the world. 

Now, hold this feeling of meaning and purpose to your heart, ask your heart if this is your business. 

If yes, move on to the next part. If no, then go back and try again and sit with it longer. 

Part 2

This feeling of meaning and purpose? Feel it as though it’s a tiny little newborn spark. 

This is your baby business, pre-conception :).

You can hold this little pre-conception spark, and get to know it for as long as you want. 

And when you’re ready, I have questions for you. 

These questions are for you AND the spark. Not your brain, but the little magical seed of purpose that wants to be born into the world. So when you ask these questions, ask them of the sparkly pre-baby, not your mind. 

Questions 

1. Pick 3 colours that you want to be expressed by 

2. What 3 words feel the most like you

3. What do you want to teach people? 

4. Do you have a name yet (if nothing comes up, leave it, and let it percolate)? 

Let this settle for a while. Come back to this feeling of the spark as often as you can, to deepen your connection to it.
